Now Pranab Mukherji is retired, so one can comment over him what one has observed of him. Pranab Mukherji was not outstanding as an intellectual or as an ideologue, nor he was a prolific politician. He never won any election from West Bengal. During the left upsurge in Bengal, he just acted as a congress man who was their permanent well wisher. Pranab da was a typical congressman who always bank upon the blessings of top congress leadership. He was devout supporter of Indira Gandhi, so his political career got nurtured. Rajeev Gandhi scrapped him, but he got the goodwill of upcoming congress leadership of PV Narsimha Rao and Sonia Gandhi. I never found Pranab Mukherji as prolofic speaker and he was also not a visionary kind of person.
But off course Pranab Mukherji was very sincere and seasoned in his activity in politics, so he was regarded as a good political manager.
